Neck Pain in Upward Facing Dog?

Do you get neck pain when you look up? Maybe it happens when you practice yoga, such as in an upward-facing dog (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana).

Then try this. Before you extend the neck, with the mouth closed, place the tongue to the roof of the mouth, keeping the teeth slightly apart. And then, maintaining this position, extend the neck.

Many people will find this action reduces discomfort, particularly when the neck is unstable. Neck instability is a common issue, particularly following a whiplash injury following a car accident.

If you use this technique, the neck will start to move more efficiently over time, and you won’t need to hold the tongue any longer consciously.  But use it for as long as you need.

And if this trick does not help, why not consider getting some help from me via an online consultation?
