Low Back Pain? Then Try This...

Video Post

The abdominal obliques, muscles mainly at the sides of the trunk, play a crucial role in core stability and support of the spine. However, they are often overlooked and under-stimulated.

Research shows that with low back pain, often one side will be weaker, which may contribute to chronic pain and dysfunction.

Try this simple test. ⬇️

1. Set your timer
2. Side Plank on one side - hold for as long as possible
3. Rest 1-2 minutes
4 Repeat side plank on other side

When doing the pose, pay close attention to how each side feels. Check if one side feels easier or perhaps more challenging than the other.
* Critical point- Compare the times of each side. If there is a 5% or more time difference between sides, the obliques are unbalanced and may play a part in your lower back issues.

To correct the imbalance if it exists, add side planks to your daily routine- but only hold each one for around 10 seconds, repeating several times. It can also be helpful to practice more on the weaker side initially.

Caution (things to keep in mind)

⚠️ If you feel pain or symptoms increase during the movement, stop and get checked out by a health professional.

⚠️ This movement can be hard work on the shoulder, so don't compromise it. Keeping the elbow beneath the shoulder can help.
